With the current situation being what it is, I see more people panicking about what they might not have in the next coming weeks, rather than what they will get. I get it. I was very poor once. My family immigrated to the US via the US Army. I lived in cinderblock one story, one room houses in my childhood. I was a private in the Army making $400 a month at one time.
So I wrote the following on my Facebook page:
“Plan out your social distancing for future opportunity.
Take an online course on how to be a mysql DBA or python programmer. Do 300 pushups, leg raises and squats a day until the all-clear sounds. Begin and maintain a liberty garden in your backyard. Learn to play the ukulele. Write chapters 1-5 of the next Harry Potter.
Don’t be the person at home whining about how bad life is now. The universe may have just given you the unique opportunity to reset without distraction, and some time to do it. Figure it out!”
The need for good mysql dba/developers is high right now. If you have a brother/sister or cousin who has been affected harshly by closings, or can no longer work, let them know about the opportunities in the MySQL world.
* For anyone who may think I have a naive attitude towards the panic and may not have understanding of the current world situation – my job in the Army was NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) warfare. This pandemic would fall under the Biological response of my job. My sister is frontline working as a pediatrician. I live in South Florida during Spring Break (the retirement location to many elderly, a winter home to many travelers and favorite spring break stop) – an full outbreak here would be devastating to the country. The one way to keep from panic and anxiety is to have a path to move forward.
Lastly – everyone should be working on flattening the curve.
